I would suggest using invisionfree.com and creating a book club forum there where people can discuss stuff, you have a calendar into which you can add the next meetings, you can allow only approved members to see certain topics (like private, friend to friend discussions) and you can skin it with a lot of freely available skins that will give it a very personal, distinct look.
